My name is Robert Gaut. I'm a father, husband, martial artist, musician, photographer, and application developer (although not always in that exact order).

Programming has been one of my passions since 1996 when I got my first taste of Web development with HTML and JavaScript. A few years later, I picked up a copy of Visual Studio 6.0 and spent many late nights teaching myself C++, Visual Basic, ASP (Active Server Pages), and SQL.

In 1999, I took an instructor position at Computer Learning Center where I taught programming. Teaching came naturally to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was thrilling to see my students learn and grow as developers and apply those skills in the workforce after school. I'm still in contact with several of my students. They've all made great careers for themselves and I'm proud to be a part of that.

Around 2001, I moved to a small start-up company that provided Web-based applications and websites for the automotive industry. It was there that I built one of the first content management systems in that market. I spent the next 10 years extending that CMS for different companies that provide websites to automotive dealers.

I currently work for a public school district where I develop internal/intranet applications using C#, SQL, WPF, Silverlight, MVC, Workflow Foundation, HTML5, jQuery, JavaScript, and KnockoutJS. I also mentor a team of developers on those technologies.
